Jyväskylä is the birthplace of Finnish teacher education. Nowadays Jyväskylä Teacher Training School operates as a part of and in close collaboration with the University of Jyväskylä. The school integrates teaching, research and pedagogical innovation on two campuses providing education for pupils aged 6 to 19 from primary school to general upper secondary school.
Each year altogether 360 student teachers graduate from the institution with teaching qualifications. In 2024, the University of Jyväskylä Teacher Training School provided teacher education for the highest number of student teachers in Finland.
